How Rust Protection Installers Fill The Diary Through Winter

Winter is when rust protection sells itself — but only if your funnel actually reaches the owners thinking about salt, Land Rovers and family workhorses.

Rust protection has a seasonal curve every installer in the UK knows by heart. October to March is peak. April–September is slower and you make most of your money in the cold months. The question is what your funnel actually looks like in those six months — because that's what decides whether the bay is booked or you're staring at a quiet diary in January.

The winter buyer is different

The summer enquiry is usually "how much?". The winter enquiry is "when can you fit me in?". Owners have just spent a weekend looking at salt spray on the underside, seen a video on the Land Rover forum, or had their MOT advisories come back. They're motivated. They're just trying to pick someone they trust.

That means your funnel doesn't need to convince them rust is real. It needs to do two things: turn up in front of the right vehicle owners, and make booking obvious.

What actually fills the diary

  1. Local Meta ads aimed at the right owners. Defender, Discovery, classic 4x4, older vans, family workhorses, classic cars. Postcode radius around your unit.
  2. A landing page that shows the work. Before/after underside shots, the product you use, the warranty, how long it takes, what it costs.
  3. A short enquiry form. Vehicle, year, your area, what they're worried about. That's it.
  4. Follow-up the same day. Most installers lose 30–40% of bookable enquiries just by not replying fast enough.

Real numbers

One of the installers I work with — Protectorust — generated 191 enquiries from 418 unique landing page views over a ~4.5-month window (Feb–Jun 2026). That's a 44.3% landing page conversion rate. Ongoing campaign, verified numbers, one installer.

That's not magic. That's a funnel that's set up properly, running through the months when owners are actually looking.

Common mistakes

  • Boosting Facebook posts. No targeting, no landing page, no follow-up. Burns money.
  • Sending everyone to the homepage. Homepages are for browsers. Landing pages are for buyers.
  • Replying days later. Winter enquiries are warm right now. Hours, not days.
  • No quote on the page. "From £X" anchors expectations and filters tyre-kickers.

If your winter is already half over

Don't wait until October. Funnels need 2–4 weeks to settle — the ad needs to learn, the landing page needs tweaks, the follow-up needs to find its rhythm. The installers who book out January and February usually started spending in September.
